The Pentagon showed just how serious it is about amping up its tech savvy and tapping the most current Silicon Valley innovation, by snagging former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, now chairman of Alphabet, to head the upstart Defense Innovation Advisory Board.
The board will advise the Defense Department about private sector best practices and help it develop a set of its own. It will also school department leaders “on innovative and adaptive means to address future organizational and cultural challenges including the use of technology alternatives, streamlined project management processes and approaches - all with the goal of identifying quick solutions to DoD problems,” according to a Defense Department statement from Defense Secretary Ash Carter's office.
Schmidt will lead a 12-member board.
