Adobe bids adieu to Flash for mobile

Adobe is waving goodbye to Flash Player for mobile platforms, the company said Wednesday. With the exception of issuing critical security fixes for existing installations, Adobe will no longer develop new versions and will instead focus on the HTML5 language, which many believe is better suited for the mobile space. Vanja Svajcer, a principal virus researcher at security firm Sophos, welcomed the news, saying Flash is one of the most common causes of drive-by malware infections. Apple's late CEO Steve Jobs was a critic of Flash, notoriously never allowing support for it on iOS-based devices for reasons that included security and performance, despite pressure from some users.
