Anonymous Sudan claims DDoS attacks against Microsoft Outlook

Widespread Microsoft Outlook outages on Monday were claimed by hacktivist threat operation Anonymous Sudan to be caused by distributed denial-of-service attacks against the platform, according to BleepingComputer. Anonymous Sudan said that the DDoS attacks against Microsoft were in retaliation for the U.S. government's involvement in the internal affairs of Sudan, even though Microsoft has attributed the outages to technical issues. "We can target any US company we want. Americans, do not blame us, blame your government for thinking about intervening in Sudanese internal affairs. We will continue to target large US companies, government and infrastructure," said Anonymous Sudan on its Telegram channel, wherein it also demanded a $1 million ransom from Microsoft, which it claims was unsuccessful in thwarting the attack. Microsoft has yet to comment on Anonymous Sudan's claims but said that mitigation efforts continue. "Telemetry indicates a reduction in impact relative to earlier iterations due to previously applied mitigations. Further details about the workstreams are in the admin center via MO572252," said Microsoft in a tweet.
