One of the alleged masterminds behind banking malware Dridex's creation was arrested in Cyprus this past week.
The Cyprus Mail reported on the unnamed 30-year-old's arrest and said it was in connection to “conspiring to commit millions of dollars worth of bank fraud using a PC.” The Moldova man was apparently staying with his wife, and he will now be extradited to the U.S.
Cybersecurity blogger Brian Krebs sourced anonymous officials and said the arrest directly relates to the Dridex gang.
Krebs also noted that the Dridex arrest comes around the same time as the arrest of a Russian man in Norway. The man allegedly developed Citadel, a different banking malware; the U.S. Justice Department believes he goes by the name “Aquabox” online.
The man, identified only by Mark, is set to be extradited to the U.S., as well.
