Data breach prevalence, costs rise amid Great Resignation

Forty-nine percent of companies across nearly a dozen countries reported experiencing data breaches during the past two years, which was 10 percentage points higher than last year, while 79% noted having endpoint-targeted ransomware attacks, 35% of which reporting denial-of-service and data loss as a result of such attacks, reports TechRadar. Moreover, organizations spent an average of 14 hours addressing cyber incidents, with costs reaching $2.8 million on average, a report from Splunk revealed. Significant resources and time were allocated for remediation by 59% of security teams, compared with 42% last year, while 64% cited difficulties in meeting new cybersecurity requirements. Cybersecurity challenges in the enterprise are being exacerbated by the Great Resignation amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with 76% of respondents noting that members of their teams were forced to take on new responsibilities, while 70% reported that they have been considering resigning due to the new workload. Burnout has also prompted 73% to resign, according to the report.
