The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and 16 business lobbies have petitioned the White House to work with Chinese officials to reverse some cybersecurity regulations that they say will compromise IT companies' ability to compete and could impact jobs both here in the U.S. and overseas.
New Chinese regulations will require companies who sell computer equipment to the country's banks to begin including secret source code with the purchases. The firms will also have to comply with audits and build backdoors into their hardware and software.
In a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry and other officials, the group requested “immediate action” to address the “alarming number of troubling, new Chinese policies,” according to a Reuters report.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and others penned a letter to Chinese officials in January asking for relief from the newly instituted regulations.
