U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Timothy Haugh, who currently holds the second topmost position at Cyber Command, has been nominated by President Joe Biden to lead both Cyber Command and the National Security Agency succeeding Gen. Paul Nakasone, who is planning to depart from the post this year, Politico reports.
Such a nomination for Haugh, who served as Cyber Command's Cyber National Mission Force director and intelligence director, has not yet been received by the Senate Intelligence Committee, according to Committee Chair Mark Warner, D-Va., but his confirmation may face a hurdle amid the ongoing hold imposed by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., regarding all nominations concerning the Department of Defense.
Meanwhile, Senate Intelligence Committee member Angus King, I-Maine, said that Nakasone maintaining the post is preferable after his role in bolstering U.S. election defenses against foreign interference, as well as strengthening Ukraine's cyber operations amid its ongoing war with Russia.
