Cyberattack disrupts major copper producer Aurubis

Aurubis, the world's second-largest copper producer, has confirmed being impacted by a cyberattack, prompting a forced shutdown of its IT systems, BleepingComputer reports. While numerous IT systems have been taken offline at their locations as a result of the attack, production has not been affected, according to Aurubis, which noted that the intrusion's overall impact is still under investigation. "The production and environmental protection facilities at the smelter sites are running, and incoming and outgoing goods are also being maintained manually," Aurubis said. Aurubis also said that with uncertainty surrounding the timeline of the restoration of its impacted systems, it has laid out a plan for using transitional solutions that includes an alternative communication channel between the firm and its clients. No further details have been provided regarding the incident but Aurubis noted that the cyberattack it suffered was "part of a larger attack on the metals and mining industry."
