Cyber talent demand spikes

Share

Cybersecurity job postings have exceeded 714,000 during the 12-month period through April 2022, representing a 43% increase over the previous year, compared with only an 18% overall increase in employment demand, according to The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. Almost 40% of the new job postings were listed between January and April this year, a CyberSeek report showed. Moreover, demand for IT managers and directors spiked by 224% year-over-year, while demand for program managers rose by 169% and demand for software engineers and developers increased by 92% over the same period. Despite the "dramatic" increase in job postings, the findings suggest the need to expand the cyber talent pool, said National Cyber Director Chris Inglis at the RSA Conference. "We need to re-examine those jobs and understand which part of those people are attempting to substitute for technology... Lets take a look at the other end of that and make sure that weve opened these possibilities to the broadest possible population," Inglis added.
