Video game developer Activision Blizzard has disclosed having been impacted by a more than 10-hour-long distributed denial-of-service attack over the weekend, resulting in the prolonged disruption of its games, including Diablo IV, Call of Duty, and World of Warcraft, according to The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.
Such a DDoS attack, which was confirmed to have been mitigated by Activision Blizzard late Sunday, comes after the company reported earlier this year that its internal systems have been compromised through a phishing attack against an employee, as well as a DDoS attack last September. Threat actors behind the intrusion have not yet been identified but the gaming community has recently been subjected to a string of malicious cyberattacks, with Cyble researchers identifying the distribution of the SupremeBot malware through a trojanized Super Mario game installer, as well as a ransomware-spreading phishing campaign aimed at Russian players of the multiplayer first-person shooter Enlisted.
