Last month, more than 1,000 participants, including active duty military, critical infrastructure operators and cybersecurity experts, took part in the fourth annual “Cyber Guard” exercise held in Suffolk, Va.
Led by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and U.S. Cyber Command, participants “rehearsed a whole-of-nation response to destructive cyberattacks against U.S. critical infrastructure,” an article by DoD News said last week. The exercises took place from June 8 to June 26.
A fact sheet (PDF) published by U.S. Cyber Command revealed that some objectives of the exercise were to improve the nation's ability to defend DoD networks and secure the agency's data as well as strengthen public-private partnerships in the wake of growing threats. According to a Wall Street Journal article, this year, the invitation for the cyberwar games was extended to banking and energy sector officials.
