Facebook fights back against spammers

In honor of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Facebook, in a blog post, outlined its pursuit of “fake likes” businesses and the company's nearly $2 billion in legal judgments against spammers.

The post elaborated on Facebook's techniques for dealing with spammers, which include updating automated and manual systems to catch suspicious activity, as well as blocking and removing fake accounts once fraudulent activity is spotted. These fake likes businesses take advantage of Facebook Page administrators who don't understand that likes will not help them “achieve their business goals,” the post said.

In addition to its technical methods for catching spammers, the company also used legal judgments to reinforce the idea that it would not tolerate abuse on its site, the post said.
