FBI arrests two members of Anonymous’s Cambodia section

Two men alleged to be members of Anonymous Cambodia, a division of the hacktivist collective, have been arrested by authorities for hacking into government websites and stealing data.

Following an investigation by local authorities and the FBI, Bun Khing Mongkul, 21, and Chou Songhen, 21, were arrested on April 7, according to a report by The Cambodia Daily.

The men allegedly infiltrated 30 government websites in addition to private sector sites. According to a statement by the National Police, some of the government websites hacked belonged to the National Election Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Defense.

Both men, who are students at the SETEC Institute which offers degrees in information technology, are charged with violating articles in the Cambodian Criminal Code that relate to information technology since Cambodia does not have a cyber crime law.
