Feds warn health care sector of looming cyber attacks

The FBI has sent a private industry notification (PIN) to health care providers warning them that the security systems they have in place are behind those of other sectors, making them prime targets for cyber attacks.

Since the industry isn't as rigid on security as the retail and financial sectors, even though they host information that's more valuable to cyber criminals, they are more likely to be plagued by cyber threats, according to notice that was reported on and obtained by Reuters.

While PINs are unclassified, organizations that receive them are advised by the FBI to keep the information private.

The notice did not mention Healthcare.gov, which has been continually criticized for its faulty security. Earlier this week users of the site were encouraged to change their passwords in the wake of the Heartbleed bug.
