With the continued fallout from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) data breaches in the backdrop, the federal government's cybersecurity posture has taken center stage punctuating the need for agencies to take clear steps toward strengthening its position, according to a former cybersecurity advisor to the White House.
Calling the breaches a "big kick in the gut," the security pro said they've spurred the government to take a deeper look at its internal cybersecurity workings. Kurtz advocates increasing information sharing within the government, especially considering how quickly cybercriminals work. This, along with other concrete steps, are the first of many moves the government must make to catch up to modern cybersecurity standards, he said.
