As reported by Tech Radar, a new Fortinet report highlights that while cloud computing is now mission-critical for businesses, including their AI strategies, it has also significantly expanded the attack surface, creating substantial security challenges. The report indicates that 69% of organizations attribute cloud security barriers to tool sprawl and visibility gaps. Furthermore, 66% lack strong confidence in their real-time cloud threat detection and response capabilities, an increase from the previous year. With 88% using hybrid or multi-cloud environments and 81% utilizing two or more providers, complexity is heightened. Automation is largely limited to alerting, with only 11% achieving autonomous remediation. Key risks are identified in identity and access (77%), misconfigurations (70%), and data exposure (66%). Despite 62% expecting cloud security budgets to rise, with an average of 34% of IT security budgets allocated to cloud security, challenges remain.Fortinet recommends five principles for improved multi-cloud security: unified visibility, tool consolidation, connecting risk domains, automation for routine issues, and extending security beyond the cloud. The findings underscore a growing need for simplified, integrated security platforms, as 64% of companies prefer this approach over managing disparate tools. This trend suggests a potential shift towards more consolidated security solutions and increased investment in automation to address the evolving threat landscape.Source: Tech Radar
