NEC has partnered with Fortinet to combine its 5G network services with the latter's FortiGate firewall, SDxCentral reports.
Fortinet has also been tasked to help develop a 5G network-focused security platform. The goal is to provide operators with one management point from which they can monitor for threats against 5G radio access networks, edge deployments and mobile roaming and mitigate them when detected.
Fortinet recently strengthened its 5G network security offerings with last years launch of the FortiGate 7121F firewall, which is focused on 5G packet core security and is able to handle threat prevention and SSL inspection of over 500 Gb per second and up to 1 billion sessions at once, enabling operators to secure any number of edges within the infrastructure.
The increase in focus on 5G security posture among vendors comes as experts from Deloitte revealed at the recentRSA Conference that hackers could potentially exploit 5G use cases through a number of attack vectors, including issues with network slicing, which could leave services and devices running in those slices vulnerable to exploits by threat actors.
