Per Bleeping Computer, Google is significantly accelerating its release schedule for the Chrome browser, moving from a four-week to a two-week cycle for stable versions. This change, effective with Chrome 153 on September 8, 2026, aims to deliver new features and fixes more rapidly to users across desktop and mobile platforms.

The new bi-weekly release cadence will apply to both beta and stable versions of Chrome on Desktop, Android, and iOS. While development channels like Dev and Canary will maintain their current schedules, the "Extended Stable" branch will continue its eight-week cycle for enterprise clients requiring longer update timelines. Google states that these more frequent, smaller releases will minimize disruption and simplify debugging, while recent process enhancements ensure stability is maintained. Users can expect to see new features arrive more often, with background updates continuing, though restart prompts may become more frequent.

This accelerated release cycle builds upon Google's previous efforts to enhance Chrome's security, including weekly security updates announced in 2023 to reduce the "patch gap" exploited by attackers.
