Major UK private pension firm cautioned of data compromise in Capita hack

BleepingComputer reports that the Universities Superannuation Scheme, which is the UK's largest private pension scheme, has been warned by Capita to assume that their data has been compromised in the Black Basta ransomware attack aimed at the business process outsourcing firm's systems last month. Attackers were noted by Capita to have been able to infiltrate servers with nearly personal data from nearly 470,000 active, deferred, and retired USS members, said USS. "While Capita cannot currently confirm if this data was definitively 'exfiltrated' (i.e., accessed and/or copied) by the hackers, they recommend we work on the assumption it was. We are awaiting receipt of the specific data from Capita, which we will in turn need to check and process," USS added. Such an incident has already been regarded by The Telegraph as the "largest" in the history of the UK, after compromising up to 350 UK corporate retirement schemes per industry sources.
