Malware affects 4,700 current and former Bradley employees

Personal identifiers including social security numbers, birthdays, and more, may have been compromised for about 4,700 of Bradley University's current and former employees - and their families - after a recent internal investigation revealed data stealing malware on two of the Peoria, Ill.-based university's computers.

The infected computers have been shut down and taken offline, according to report by the Associated Press. Some employees have already reported fraudulent tax return filings possibly as a result of the breach, prompting officials to urge staff to monitor their financial records for suspicious activities.

The FBI and IRS are working with Bradley in a probe of the cyber attack and the university is offering free credit and identity protection services to employees for a year. A webpage was established to provide assistance for those who may have been affected.
