Man pleads guilty for involvement in international hacking ring

A member of an international hacking ring has plead guilty for his part in breaking into the networks of tech firms and stealing over $100 million in intellectual property.

Nathan Leroux, 20, of Bowie, Maryland plead guilty to conspiracy to commit computer intrusions and criminal copyright infringement, according to an FBI release.

Leroux was a member of a cybercriminal collective that stole software and data related to the Xbox One console and Xbox Live gaming network, in addition to popular games. He was part of the operation from January 2011 to September 2012.

The group, which compromised the networks of popular technology firms such as Microsoft, Epic Games and Zombie Studios, intended to build and sell counterfeit versions of the then unreleased console. The costs associated with the criminal campaign is estimated to be between $100 million and $200 million.
