Obama promises U.S. response to Sony attack, says company made mistake

Pledging a U.S. response to the Sony Pictures hack, which the FBI blamed on North Korea, President Obama nevertheless said the movie company “made a mistake” in canceling the Christmas Day debut of “The Interview,” the film that allegedly spurred the attack.

“That's not what America is about,” Obama said in a Friday press conference, noting that if Sony executives had spoken to him first, he would have admonished them to “not get into a pattern in which you're intimidated by these kinds of criminal attacks.”

Indeed, Sony has been in a defensive posture since the attack, threats from hackers and a steady leak of information have made their way into the public eye.

While he didn't offer specific details, the president noted the U.S. would formulate a response.

"They caused a lot of damage and we will respond," Obama said.
