Operation PowerOFF dismantles DDoS-for-hire services, nabs suspects

DDoS attack

As reported by Security Affairs, Operation PowerOFF has successfully dismantled a significant network of DDoS-for-hire services, leading to the shutdown of 53 domains and the arrest of four individuals. This international law enforcement action targeted platforms used by over 75,000 cybercriminals.

The operation focused on disrupting "booter" services, which allow users to pay for launching distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks flood websites and servers with traffic, causing outages and disruption. Authorities seized infrastructure and gained access to databases containing over 3 million criminal user accounts.

Twenty-one countries participated in the coordinated enforcement week, which also involved sending warning letters to identified users and issuing multiple search warrants. The seized data is now being used to pursue further investigations against those who utilized these illegal services.
