Ransomware attack at La. city under investigation

Share

Investigation is underway at the city of Alexandria, Louisiana, which has been impacted by an ALPHV ransomware attack, according to The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. Alexandria had been added to the ALPHV's list of victims on Thursday, with city officials saying they had been informed regarding "a possible systems breach." State officials have also been sought to launch a probe and help respond to the breach, said state Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Director Mike Steele. "Cybersecurity resources from the state have been deployed to help out with the situation. The city and parish reached out to the state for support and thats when our team stepped in. There is a criminal investigation at the state level as well as some federal agencies involved in a federal investigation as well," Steele said. Alexandria would be the 22nd local government across the U.S. to be impacted by a ransomware attack this year, noted Emsisoft Threat Analyst Brett Callow.
