Continental ransomware attack claimed by LockBit
Share
BleepingComputer reports that the LockBit ransomware group has admitted to targeting German multinational automotive parts manufacturer Continental, from which it also stole certain data.
While LockBit has not provided details regarding the timeline of the breach or the data it exfiltrated from the automotive parts group's systems, the ransomware gang threatened to publish the stolen information on its data leak site should Continental fail to provide a ransom within 22 hours.
Continental has not confirmed the claims of LockBit but the company's Vice President of Communications & Marketing Kathryn Blackwell provided a news release detailing a cyberattack against Continental's systems in early August.
"Immediately after the attack was discovered, Continental took all necessary defensive measures to restore the full integrity of its IT systems. With the support of external cybersecurity experts, the company is conducting an investigation into the incident. The investigation is ongoing," said Continental in the statement.
LockBit's claims of attacking Continental come after the group targeted Entrust and the Italian Internal Revenue Service this year.
