Metropolitan Opera cyberattack impacts over 45K individuals

More than 45,000 individuals had their personal information compromised following a cyberattack on the Metropolitan Opera in December, which has since been claimed by the Snatch ransomware operation, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. The Met had its systems infiltrated from Sept. 30, 2022, to Dec. 6, 2022, enabling threat actors to access and leak information from 45,094 people, including names, Social Security numbers, tax identification numbers, financial account details, payment card information, and driver's license numbers, said the New York-based opera house in notification letters to victims. Impacted individuals have been given free Kroll identity monitoring services for a year, as well as details for reporting instances of fraud as a result of the breach. Such an attack was initially reported by the Met to have impacted their website, call center, and box office, preventing the processing of new ticket orders, refunds, and employee paychecks.
