Two-thirds of companies impacted by cybercrimes during the past year experienced more than one attack, 10% of whom had been attacked at least 10 times, reports ZDNet.
Malware and ransomware attacks were the most prevalent cybercrime cited by companies, according to a report from Cymulate, which also noted the elevated incidence of distributed denial-of-service attacks and cryptojacking intrusions. Most companies have been compromised through phishing emails, followed by the exploitation of digital supply chain and third-party software vulnerabilities. While being hit by cyberattacks increased companies' odds of experiencing repeat attacks, the report showed that more frequent cyber threat and risk discussions between information security and leadership teams curbs breaches. "When we finally go from awareness to executive involvement, we see a huge difference there really is a need to be proactive. And it makes a difference in the number of times you get hit," said Cymulate Director of Cyber Evangelism Dave Klein.
