SC Video: Ransomware hauls in $30 million for criminals in 2015

Jason Brvenik, principal engineer in Cisco's security business group, sat down with SC Magazine at RSA 2016 to discuss what was taking place at the show along with some trends his company is tracking.

Brvenik described the just ended RSA Conference as not having a particular dominant theme with the major companies all pushing the same ideas.

“Everyone is telling a very similar story, all are focused on threats, all are focused on stopping the bad guys, but they tell the same story and then they try to differentiate,” he said.

Brvenik also pointed out that Cisco's annual security report had some interesting findings with ransomware not only remaining as a persistent threat, but hauling in an estimated $30 million in 2015 that went directly into criminals' pockets.
