Combating social engineering tactics and spear phishing campaigns doesn't have to make employees' lives more difficult with additional security roadblocks, said Bruce McCulley, senior information security specialist, U.S. Senate-Sergeant at Arms, in an interview with SCMagazine.com at SC Congress New York.
Following his appearance on an afternoon panel, McCulley further clarified how he and his Senate team keep legislators protected while facilitating their work.
“[A lot of protecting them relies on an] understanding that our users are just trying to do the right thing,” he said. “The right thing to them is doing their jobs. If we get in the way then they're going to try to find a way around it but as long as we understand what their jobs and goals are and work with them to protect them as well as with their constituents they're very sympathetic and cooperative.”
The users know the threats facing them, he said, so implementing additional security tools is understood as a necessary move.
