A trio of Republican senators, including presidential candidate Marco Rubio, R-Fla., have introduced the North Korean Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act of 2015 that would sanction the Hermit Kingdom for detrimental activity in several areas, including cybersecurity.
The bill will codify two executive orders issued earlier this year giving the Treasury Department additional authority to sanction any person or entity involved in undermining U.S. economic and national interests and the bill requires the president to submit a strategy to counter North Korean cyber-related activity, according to an October 6 press release issued by Rubio.
Joining Rubio are Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, who called for the U.S. "to increase pressure on North Korea and require them to end their nuclear program, stop the cyber-attacks against us, and respect the human rights of their own citizens.”
