Seven House Democrats traveled to China this past week to discuss cybersecurity, among other issues.
Included in the group was House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Reps. Ted Lieu (Calif.), and Betty McCollum (Minn.), and others, the Associated Press reported. Pelosi said in a statement to The Hill that, “Our delegation travels to China seeking to expand cooperation between our nations in advancing economic growth and confronting the climate crisis that threatens our world.”
The international visit follows the creation of a pact between the U.S. and China that aims to hamper intellectual property theft. The two nations agreed in September not to “conduct or knowingly support cyber-enabled theft of intellectual property, including trade secrets or other confidential business information, with the intent of providing competitive advantages to companies or commercial sectors.”
The agreement notably left out discussion of espionage related to government interests.
