Symantec sacks CEO Steve Bennett

After serving as the president and chief executive officer of Symantec for less than two years, Steve Bennett was terminated by the security company on Thursday.

Michael Brown has been named interim president and CEO, replacing Bennett who also resigned from the board of directors, according to a release by Symantec.

The company has already begun a search for a permanent CEO with the help of a “leading executive search firm.” Daniel Schulman, Symantec chairman, indicated that the decision was a result of an “ongoing deliberative process” and not prompted by any particular “event or impropriety,” according to the release.

This is the second time the board of directors has pushed out its CEO in the last two years. Prior to Bennett's hiring at Symantec, former CEO Enrique Salem was also terminated at the behest of its board of directors.
