Tech savvy homeowners expect connected homes, worry about privacy, breaches

More than half, or 56 percent, of the 1800 tech savvy homeowners that Fortinet surveyed for its “Internet of Things: Connected Home” study believe the seamless connection of appliances and electronics to the internet, is “extremely likely to become a reality” within the next five years.

The responses foresee privacy issues depending on the country with 84 percent of the respondents in China and only 31 percent in the U.S. expressing that sentiment.

Many were wary of privacy. Respondents in India were most concerned with 63 percent aggressing that “privacy is important to me, and I do not trust how this type of data may be used,” compared to only 34 percent of respondents in the U.S.

Breaches provoked worry, too, with 63 percent of all respondents saying that they were either “extremely concerned” or “somewhat concerned” them while only 34 percent of U.S. respondents said the same.
