Florida-based international educational services firm Kaplan, which offers test preparation services for high school and graduate exams, had data from at least 230,941 individuals across seven U.S. states stolen following a cybersecurity incident late last year, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.
Malicious actors who infiltrated Kaplan servers between Oct. 30 and Nov. 18 were able to siphon certain files with individuals' names, Social Security numbers, and driver's license numbers, according to Kaplan officials.
Separate regulatory filings revealed that the incident affected 173,676 people in Texas, almost 26,600 in South Carolina, 19,705 in Maine, and over 11,600 in New Hampshire. Additional details regarding the perpetrator's identity remain uncertain.
Such a breach has already prompted various law firms to commence class-action lawsuits against Kaplan, which has since ventured into providing employee development programs to over 15,000 corporate customers.
