Network solutions developer Cisco has announced its intent to expand its security portfolio by acquiring ThreatGRID, a New York City-based malware analysis firm.
Specializing in malware analysis and sandboxing technology, the privately held ThreatGRID is composed of 25 employees and produces on-premise, as well as cloud-based, malware detection and threat intelligence software.
The move became public on the last day of the annual Cisco Live event in San Francisco, and is intended to enhance the company's current Advanced Malware Protection (AMP) portfolio, according to a blog post by Hilton Romanski, senior vice president and head of business development at Cisco.The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
AMP was originally developed by Sourcefire, the former network hardware and software security company that Cisco acquired in July 2013 for $2.7 billion.
