Clinton Campaign systems hacked

If the Democrats are lucky, hacks, like celebrity deaths will come in threes and the latest intrusion -- this time into Hillary Clinton's campaign network -- will be the last in a series of targeted attacks.

The Justice Department's national security division is looking into the attacks to the incident, according to a report by Reuters, which broke news of the latest hack on Friday.

"An analytics data program maintained by the DNC, and used by our campaign and a number of other entities, was accessed as part of the DNC hack," Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement, according to NBC News, noting that outside security pros are assessing the campaign's systems. "To date, they have found no evidence that our internal systems have been compromised,"

It comes on the heels of a breach at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and after WikiLeaks released thousands of emails pilfered, by what appeared to be Russian hackers, from the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

WikiLeaks's dump of 20,000 Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails raised the specter that Russia may be trying to manipulate the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.

There is no information yet as to what, if any, data from the Clinton campaign was compromised in the latest incident.

iboss Cybersecurity CEO Paul Martini called the attack "exactly what cybersecurity experts have been warning about" for a very long time.

"When what appears to be state-sponsored hackers can attempt to influence an American election in this way, it should be a wake up call that all organizations are vulnerable," Martini told SCMagazine.com in emailed comments. "This is another example of the need to improve security in the post-infection phase to catch hackers before they can do real damage.”
