Apple has released a new version of its "Mountain Lion" operating system to address 33 vulnerabilities.
Mac OS X 10.8.4 patches implementations of OpenSSL, an open-source implementation of the secure sockets layer (SSL) protocol, and Ruby on Rails, an open-source web application framework that recently made headlines for in-the-wild exploits impacting its programmer user base.
The updated OS also rectified bugs in QuickTime, CoreAnimation and CoreMedia Playback products.
Another vulnerability that affected the directory service for Mac OS X Server 10.6.8 (and earlier versions) also was patched. Boston-based security firm Core Security Technologies discovered the issue – a buffer overflow flaw.
