Cisco Systems has entered a deal to purchase cybersecurity startup Armorblox in a bid to strengthen email, cloud, and enterprise communication system security, SiliconAngle reports.
As part of the acquisition, Armorblox's generative artificial intelligence and natural language processing technologies will be leveraged by Cisco across its security portfolio to help provide improved threat prediction and detection to its clients.
"The first application of Armorbloxs advanced techniques was securing the most significant way enterprise users get routinely attacked yes, I'm talking about email. Through this acquisition, though, we see many exciting broad security use cases and possibilities to unlock," wrote Cisco Security Chief Product Officer Raj Chopra.
No financial terms regarding the agreement have surfaced but the deal is expected to be completed by July.
Generative AI has been noted by Constellation Research's Holgen Mueller to potentially yield significant benefits in cybersecurity.
"There's a lot of merit in using this technology to look more closely at messages and communications that may harbor malicious threats," said Mueller.
