The FBI is investigating Lizard Squad, the hacker group known for knocking gaming services offline, most recently on Christmas Day.
An unnamed source close to the situation shared news of the investigation with The Daily Dot after one member of the group publicly discussed carrying out distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on Christmas day, which left some holiday gamers without service for days.
In a Sky News interview, Finnish hacker “ryanc” shed light on the DDoS attacks, which the group claimed maxed out at 1.2 terabits per second. If true, it would be one of the largest DDoS attacks to date and three times larger than the February NTP reflection attack fought off by website performance firm CloudFlare.
The group delivered on a promise of launching an attack on Christmas Day.
