Firefox 17 includes security fixes, Social API debut

Mozilla has packaged fixes for nearly 30 security vulnerabilities into the latest version of its web browser, Firefox 17. Six of the patches are designated "critical" and correct issues ranging from user-after-free and buffer overflows to CSS and HTML injections. The main new feature of Firefox 17 is the introduction of Social API, which allows social networking sites such as Facebook to "integrate into Firefox in a compelling way and makes it easier to use the web the way you want," according to a blog post. "The Social API includes features like a social sidebar, toolbar notification buttons and the ability to easily chat with your friends no matter where you are on the web."
