Firefox 14.01, the latest release of Mozilla's web browser, will by default encrypt Google searches, even if users aren't using the secure search tool, Mozilla said in a blog post Tuesday. With this feature enabled, all search queries using Google will be sent over the secure HTTPS protocol, preventing malicious attackers from sniffing search queries over open wireless networks. Support for additional search engines are expected in the future. Mozilla also reworked Firefox's address bar to more clearly display the security level of the site being visited. The padlock indicating the site is using HTTPS is back in this version, and the browser displays a green indicator for sites using extended validation SSL certificates.
