A New Zealand judge has ruled that Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom can be extradited to the United States, although Dotcom's lawyers have filed an appeal.
Dotcom faces several charges in the U.S., including copyright infringement and money laundering, USAToday reported. Three Dotcom associates have also been ruled eligible for extradition. All involved could face decades in prison if convicted, the news site reported.
Dotcom is alleged to have operated a website that allowed users to illegally download a host of protected multimedia content, including songs, TV shows and movies.
Since the ruling, Dotcom has taken to Twitter unleashing a string of tweets concerning his case that focuses on interviews his lawyers have given and explanations why his actions are not illegal.
