An Opelousas, La., man was sentenced to one day and one year in prison and three years of supervised release for a single count of using a computer to get information from a protected computer after he hacked into systems to steal information on more than 5,000 credit card accounts as well as $80,000 in bitcoin.
Rory Stephen Guidry, 29, who went by the handle [email protected] online, also tried to sell the pilfered data on Darkode, a hacking forum that the feds shut down in July 2015. Guidry, who pleaded guilty in February, is not new to cybercrime, having been accused of breaking into a server in Austin in July 2014 while living in Texas, according to a report in The Advocate.
