Pirated copies of hacking game Watch Dogs contain Bitcoin mining malware

A pirated copy of a new video game about hacking is, when downloaded, causing gamers to hack themselves.

A specific torrent for the long-awaited, recently released video game Watch Dogs contains Bitcoin mining malware, according to a report, which adds that the compromised torrent has been downloaded by at least tens of thousands of individuals.

Downloading the torrent purportedly installs ‘ltc.exe,' a Bitcoin miner, which runs a process, ‘winlogin.exe,' that is said to use up a quarter of the infected computer's resources – resulting in poor system performance and crashes.

The torrent in question is believed to be a fake version of the SKIDROW release, according to reports. SKIDROW is a popular and seemingly reputable pirating group.
