Suit alleges FBI ignored FOIA request for records on presidential election

A journalist and a researcher filed a suit Tuesday against the FBI, charging the bureau will failing to comply with their Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for records associated with the recent U.S. presidential election.

Vice news senior investigative reporter Jason Leopold and Ryan Sharpiro, a PhD candidate at MIT and research affiliate at the Harvard Klein Center for Internet & Society contend the FBI failed to respond to their entreaty to expedite the processing of their FOIA request. This is the third FOIA lawsuit regarding records on investigations that involve President-elect Donald Trump that Shapiro and Leopold have filed.

The lawsuit, “among other things, seeks public disclosure of specified government records to make sense of the pivotal role of the FBI, as well as of other agencies, in perhaps the most controversial presidential election in modern U.S. history,” according to court documents.
