The email security offering requires the client to point inbound and outbound email records to the company's service. It then provides advanced spam filtering. We were particularly impressed with the number of languages supported within the anti-spam filter. The web portal was multilingual as well. Virus and worm scanning is provided for inbound and optional outbound messages. Message continuity is provided in the event of the client's server failure. Messages will continue to be queued on the MX Logic environment and are available for review via a web-based portal. With the addition of the archiving service, clients can store messages for periods ranging from one to seven years. MX Logic has created some unique search technology that allows clients to create very advanced search criteria and search based on message or attachment content.
The web defense service works at the network perimeter to block spyware, viruses and phishing attacks. As with the email security offering, this service is integrated with the MX Control Console for a single point of administration.
The client portal was easy to use and delivered all the options needed for reporting, alerting and managing email and web policies. Synchronization with Active Directory was available for the initial populating of the user lists.
A nice feature was the ability to create a user without a password, and then allow that user to "self-enroll" into the system via a challenge-based first logon process. A "safe view" feature is available to review quarantined messages, which provides a nice means to view content without the risk of running embedded or malicious code.
We were pleased with the integrated management, alerting, auditing and ease-of-use interface this offering provided.
