Rogers and a colleague from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory created Matchlight out of a conversation with a CISO at a bank. The CISO asked the duo to monitor their client list for an unexpected leak. The catch was that the bank couldn't provide them with the actual list. To meet this challenge, the two built the Matchlight dark web search engine and devised a patented data fingerprinting technique that creates one-way digital signatures of client information, allowing the system to search for information without ever needed to see or store it.
Rogers came well-prepared for his work at Terbium after managing a portfolio of physics and sensor research projects at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. As a computational physicist he completed his thesis work and wrote a book on quantum cryptography. He has experience supporting defense and intelligence community cyber operations as well as start-up experience in the defense, energy and biotechnology sectors. Rogers has held positions at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Joint Quantum Institute at the University of Maryland and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
