Man pleads guilty to Comcast scam

A man alleged to be the ringleader of a scam that cost Comcast more than $2 million but lowered customers' monthly bills, has pleaded guilty to the crime, according to a report in The Times-Herald of Norristown, Penn.

Alston Buchanan of Philadelphia entered a guilty plea last Wednesday in a Montgomery County court in Pennsylvania. He is accused of several counts, including computer trespassing and conspiracy to commit theft of services, for buying login identification information from a Comcast employee and using it to lower the monthly bills of 5,790 customers who each paid him between $75-$100.

Buchanan's cousin, Richard Justin Spraggins, entered an open guilty plea in front of the same court last September and was ordered to pay $66,825 in restitution. He began an 11- to 23-month sentence in February. Buchanan faces 57.5 to 115 years in prison.
