Cisco and IBM are joining forces to combat cybercrime by heavily integrating their research arms, as well as their security products and platforms.
A key element of this partnership will be the collaboration between the IBM X-Force and Cisco Talos threat intelligence teams, the two companies announced on Wednesday in a press release. For instance, the two companies closely worked together in May 2017 to share intel on, and coordinate their responses to, the recent WannaCry ransomware attacks.
According to the release, Cisco and IBM's newly strengthened alliance is "focused on helping organizations reduce the time required to detect and mitigate threats, offering organizations integrated tools to help them automate a threat response with greater speed and accuracy." As part of this arrangement, Cisco will build new security applications for IBM's security analytics platform, IBM Global Services will support Cisco products in its MSSP offering, and IBM's incident response platform will integrate with Cisco's threat analysis technology.
