Indiana-based Schlage Lock Company is notifying an undisclosed number of employees that their personal information was on an encrypted company laptop that was stolen from an employee's vehicle.
How many victims? Undisclosed.
What type of personal information? Names, addresses, dates of birth, telephone numbers, work email addresses, Social Security numbers, and demographic information, as well as employment data such as employee numbers, salary data, work locations and supervisors.
What happened? An encrypted company laptop containing the information was stolen from a Schlage employee's vehicle at an offsite location.
What was the response? A police report was filed with a local law enforcement agency. Schlage deactivated the password to access the laptop, and is reminding employees of security policies. Affected employees are being notified, and offered a free year of credit monitoring services.
Details: The theft occurred on Sept. 23, and Schlage was notified on that day.
